Submissions and Guidelines

We are now welcoming abstract submissions for the 2024 EMCR Symposium and Westmead Research and Innovation Conference. This year, the WRH EMCR Symposium (organised by the WRH EMCR Committee) will be held as a satellite symposium on Tuesday 17th September on levels 4 and 5 of the Westmead Innovation Centre.

Abstract submissions to display a poster or present an oral presentation at the EMCR Symposium and Westmead Research and Innovation Conference will be submitted via the same portal below.

EMCR Symposium

The WRH EMCR Committee invites all EMCR’s (postdoctoral researchers and/or other research staff), defined as researchers 10 years or less into their career, to submit abstracts. There are 10 x 15-minute oral presentation slots available at the WRH EMCR Symposium and poster presentation opportunities across the 3 days. Prizes will be given to the best oral and poster presentations.

EMCR 'Rising Stars' - Westmead Research and Innovation Conference

The “Rising Star” category is exclusively to showcase early and mid-career research (EMCR), defined as researchers 10 years or less into their career. There are 5 x 5-minute speaking slots available in this session within the Westmead Research and Innovation Conference program as well as the opportunity to display your research in poster form across the 3 days. A prize will be given to the best EMCR “Rising Star” oral presenter and prizes for first and second place poster

Honours and HDR Students  - Westmead Research and Innovation Conference

We invite all Honours and HDR students to submit an abstract for the opportunity to present a 5-minute oral presentation of your work at the Westmead Research and Innovation Conference or a poster display across the 3 days. There are 6 x 5-minute speaking slots available in this session within the Westmead Research and Innovation Conference program. A prize will be given to the best student 5-minute oral presentation and prizes will be awarded for first and second place poster.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Your abstract must be no longer than 300 words
  • Title, authors and affiliations are not included in the word count
  • Your abstract must follow the following format:
    • Introduction to the health problem (including aims and hypothesis)
    • Body (including methods and discussion)
    • Conclusion
    • Do not include tables, figures or graphs
    • If any intellectual property from this research has been patented or commercialised please briefly elaborate on this within your 300-word count. Please note the abstract should not contain confidential information or data that may become the subject of a patent application or should otherwise be embargoed. If you are unsure, please contact your organisations IP team.
    • References in the text have to be cited at the end of the abstract and are included in the 300-word count
    • The use of abbreviations and acronyms should be kept to a minimum

The deadline for submitting an abstract is 5pm on Thursday 1st August 2024.
